REVIEW: Matchbox

DC area restaurant chain that has pizza, Sep 18, 2019

Location: 1100 S Hayes st, Pentagon City, VA - www.matchboxrestaurants.com/

We took a three-day trip to Washington, DC, and our firth thing to do was a Pentagon tour. However, we had to get some lunch first and due to timing, it had to someplace close by. Luckily, at the mall just south of the Pentagon there was this place called Matchbox that was highly rated. When we walked in, it was fancier than I expected and it was also really busy, so we thought we might have to audible and go to a nearby burger joint. We were able to score some counter seating right away, though, so it worked out. A waiter took our order pretty quickly and despite the menu having a wide variety of things, we both went with pizza. Fortunately, they had personal pies because we had no way to save any leftovers. After a reasonable amount of time, we were presented with the following:

Starting with my wife's pizza, it was not constructed well as you can see. The cheese was too recessed from the edge of the crust, leaving a weird sauce ring on the outside. Toppings were also on the chintzy side. Mine definitely looks better and was loaded with a good amount of pepperoni. It even had that commonly desired cupping effect with the pepperoni (I don't personally care for that, but I know people who love it). Our enjoyment of this place and our food was probably a little impacted by our need to be a rush, but even then, overall the pizza was just decent. Nothing really stood out about it as really good or not so good. It was forgettable, more or less. The verdict?

6 slices = Solidly Delicious
