REVIEW: Donato's Pizza

So much better than it used to be, Sep 8, 2019

Back in 1997 or 1998, I got a second job working at a pizza place that was walking distance from my house in Dayton, Ohio. During my interview, the manager gave me an individual pizza and I thought it was ok at best. I worked there for a while, probably between 6 and 12 months, and each shift I got a free individual pizza. No matter how I made it, I thought it was just ok. Once I stopped working there, I did not try it again for quite a while. Then, sometime later when I finally did go back, they had changed things up to include different crusts. The hand-tossed, in particular, turned out to be much improved. Well, I don't want to spoil it too much. We went to the only Donatos in the Hampton Roads area, ordered a couple of pizzas, and sat down. After a reasonable amount of time, we were presented with the following:

Starting with my medium pizza. It looks good with a solid but not amazing amoutn of pepperoni. It has a bit too much crust, but it is great crust and mitigated by their amazing dipping sauce, which I always get extra here for this express purpose. So, the crust turns into excellent breadsticks. Everything about this pizza is excellent and delicious, but it is all underpinned by that fantastic amazing sauce. I seriously cannot oversell just how good it is. I would buy it in cans or jars if it was for sale. I get the bigger pizza so I will have leftovers, but my wife gets the smaller one and sometimes still makes it two servings. Her pizza also looks good and she loves it as well. This is clearly our favorite large pizza chain. The verdict?

9 slices = Completely Awesome
